Applicants should be aged between 14 and 17 on the departure date and living in WF14 to be eligible for funding. In previous years successful applicants have been those young people who would most benefit from a boost to their self confidence and/or a chance to have an experience not normally open to them.
“Sail training requires participants to confront many demanding challenges, both physical and emotional. It is an activity that inspires self-confidence and the acceptance of personal responsibility, promotes an acceptance of others whatever their social or cultural backgrounds, and develops a willingness to take controlled risks. For most who undertake sail training on Tall Ships it is a positive life-changing experience.”
The two successful applicants will have the opportunity to set sail on the ship "James Cook" from North Shields on Monday 13th - Saturday 18th August 2018.
