Young Foster Carers
Foster carers provide care and support for looked after children of all ages, sharing their home and family life to help them grow strong.
The sons and daughters of foster carers play an invaluable role in the fostering relationship, providing direct care and support. They model positive behaviour and share space and belongings with foster children, and of course they share their parents. They are young foster carers.
In 2010, Northorpe Hall Child & Family Trust piloted a support package for young foster carers. We brought together some young foster carers to find out more about their experience and support needs. In October half term – sons & daughters week 2010 – there was an event for people involved in fostering to come and hear what young foster carers had to say.
